Sydney Essentials

on Tuesday, 30 November 1999. Posted in Sydney Essential Items

touching down in the harbour city is just plain exciting.  so much to see, so much to do; laying around Bondi beach, walking around the Sydney Opera house, surfing at Manly, beers in The Rocks, the list is endless – But before you get into the fun stuff, there are a few Sydney Essentials we reccomend you nail down fist.

1. Is a mobile phone or OZ sim card so you can get connected to your loved ones back at home. Come on, you just know your mum wants to hear from you the very minute you land in Sydney.

There are a few options; you can either bring your own phone from home as long as it's unlocked and then get a sim card from any one of the Australian providers.  we love Vodafone, 3 Mobile, and Virgin Mobile.

otherwise of course you can buy a phone and sim-card package from any of these fabulosu providers  too. If you’ve just landed in Sydney then head to Bondi Westfeild, Broadway, Pitt Street Mall or if you’re staying in Manly, Manly corso

2. find your self a map of Sydney, to help you navigate this fine city. the city isn’t big, but it can be a little confusing to work through if you’ve only been here a short while. best place to grab a map is Central Station, Circular Quay or of course the airport. if you’re staying at a backpackers like Happy Chappys or WakeUp! hostel they’ll have the maps,  info and  the freindly staff members to help you out.

3. grab a day travel card. Sydney doesn’t have anything as fancy as an Oyster card but we do have day passes for trains, ferries and buses. This is one of the best sites to check out for getting around Sydney. this is the official transpor t for Sydney website - it has all the ticket info, prices, where to go, how to get there and deals you can purchase if you want to see certain attractions around Sydney. Best to check here first so you have an idea of what it is you might want to do when you land in the City of sun.

4. Various international phone cards are easily available in the market. These cards give you a possibility to call your loved ones at very affordable rates and also offer great connectivity.

5. You can also make cheap international calls to anywhere in the world using your computer. PC to phone calls can be made at low cost. This helps you to save money on international telephone calls.

check this site out for a really good insight into travelling around sydney also, otherwise be sure to check out out getting around town video.

Shipping your stuff over

if you have some big things you can't live without or you are just severing all ties and moving your entire life over, then a shipping company or excess baggage co. is a good choice.
